THE NO DAY BUT TODAY WELLNESS CENTER
So you finally found the courage to get tested for HIV, and you’re positive. Now what?
Being diagnosed with any kind of serious medical condition shakes us to our core. Being diagnosed with HIV is often far worse than cancer or heart disease because of the aspect of personal responsibility that goes along with it. This can cause us to question our most fundamental beliefs. Everything we thought we knew becomes a huge question mark, and it’s easy to get lost in the fog.
The impact of this isn’t just psychological or spiritual. It also has a profound physical effect. Recent studies show conclusively that a person’s spiritual, mental and emotional health has a profound effect on physical health as well, which can make a bad situation worse.
Spirituality and religion are not the same thing. Religion is a component of spirituality often dictated by cultural, familial or societal factors. People can change, or even abandon religion completely. But the spirit remains. And it needs to be explored and nurtured. Some questions can’t be answered for us. We must find the answers within ourselves.
Two important activities on our regular schedule are the HIV Anonymous 12-Step Support Group and the Find Your Mind: Basic Meditation Class.
HIV Anonymous takes its cue from other 12-step programs such as Alcoholics Anonymous and Narcotics Anonymous. This group is open to anyone who is infected with or affected by HIV. This is mostly a beginner’s meeting, primarily focused at people recently diagnosed or still struggling with the effects of being diagnosed with HIV. However, anyone with HIV – and their loved ones – is welcome. The purpose of the group is moral and spiritual support between people sharing the same struggles in life, and is a priceless tool for those learning to adjust to life with HIV. Members may remain anonymous, using nicknames or aliases. No one is required to share, but all are invited to. There are no fees for HIV Anonymous (HA), though our Center is supported entirely by donations. Any contribution is welcome.
Find Your Mind: Basic Meditation Class is a guided meditation class designed to help everyone find peace in their daily lives. Classes are guided by experienced meditators who can teach the fundamentals of this ancient practice. Although meditation is one of the three aspects of Buddhist practice, one does not have to be a Buddhist to experience the positive effects of meditation. These techniques are used by people of all religions and traditions all over the world and are known to provide incredible results when practiced properly and often. And meditation is proven to have profound effects on people with chronic illness, such as HIV and cancer. Meditation is well documented to strengthen the immune system, calm the mind from its everyday troubles, and improve one’s outlook on life in general. There are no fees for our guided meditation class, though our Center is supported entirely by donations. Any contribution is welcome.
At The No Day But Today Wellness Center, total wellness is our focus. We are always studying and researching new tools for spiritual enrichment, leading us to improved mental and emotional well-being, all of which have profound physical benefits as well. We offer trained counselors, partnerships with mental health professionals, social workers and spiritual leaders from a range of traditions – all dedicated to helping you as you seek to regain control of your total well being.
Visit our schedule of programs and find a time and activity that suits you. We are not here to change you, we are here to help you. You’re welcome here just as you are.
You don’t have to face life with HIV alone. We can help.
Our Wellness Center opened on August 1, 2011. We currently have activities on weekends, but are planning to add programs in the near future. We are always looking for more ways of helping people with HIV live healthier, happier lives. If there is a program you think would be of help to people living with HIV in the Philippines, please let us know by clicking the “Contact” tab on the main menu.
Thank you!
